Church Basement Ladies & Boggstown Delight Travelers

10-31-2012 at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre did not disappoint with the CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES - AWAY IN THE BASEMENT! This 3rd installment of the popular production featuring the ladies of Christ Luthern Reedemer Church was such a treat and still as hilarious as anticipated.  The pastor and ladies of the "basement" are as involved as ever in keeping the annual Christmas Pagent running smoothly. The High Street contingent of 84  had the best day and can not wait for installmet #4!

BOGGSTOWN, IN  11-14-2012 (see photo above)
What a treat - the staff and entertainers of Boggstown NEVER disapoint with an afternoon of (mostly) clean and fun-filled comedy!

Three musicians and 2 entertainers had our group enthralled with their singing, jokes and cabaret show. The popular sing-a-long songs and rag-time piano are always a show stopper.  This was my personal favoriate of 3 times visiting and the delicious beef stew luncheon for our seved meal could be an all-time favorite:)

Truly, two of the BEST trips ever!!!!!  dh

Busy Fall Travels

 Memorial Stadium  Clemson, SC
Many of you know that I am also lucky enough to travel with my husband on various trips and with BSU football. The above photo from 9/8/2012 was the orange-filled stadium of Tiger fans (minus the 100 or so BSU contingent). Ball State didn't get the victory, but just being in a stadium of capacity in the ACC is a treat!
Costumed Colonial Guide
Annapolis, Md
I organized a wonderful tour for the spouses of the Indiana Bankers Association for a day trip. We enjoyed the State Capitol of Maryland on a sunny fall day and as a special treat, we  saw the Naval Academy as the cadets were marching to "chow time".

Hilton Head Island, SC
Fall is the BEST time to visit the picturesque beaches of South Carolina. Shown here at high tide, my golf gal friends & I also played and shopped our way around the island.

Trail Head
French Lick, Indiana
The bankers also retreated to southern Indiana for their annual conference and feeling ambitious one morning, J Botts and I made the 6 mile hike through this wooded section of the resort.
That's why you haven't seen me around lately:)

FALL MYSTERY TRIP EXPLORES FT. WAYNE

There is something for everyone in the northeast part of the state as the High Street Travelers enjoyed a wonderful day in the town General "Mad" Anthony Wayne founded in 1794 at the apex of three rivers.

The group was treated to a back stage tour of the historic and magnificently restored Embassy Theatre, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Theatre lovers should return to take in a Broadway show or a concert performed by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic .

Just around the corner on S Calhoun street  are more than 1,200 plants classified in over 500 species at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Gardens. Waterfalls, orchids and palm trees in the Tropical Garden provide a soothing South Seas feel, while the Desert Garden goes dry with 72 different types of cactus. Four outdoor gardens blossom with ornamental grasses, rhododendrons, trees, shrubs and blooming perennials.

A delicious lunch was provided at the old gas factory, Don Hall's Old Gas House, a city landmark since the 1950's with a view of the St. Mary's River. The chocolate lovers in the group (anyone you know?) were thrilled at the next stop - DeBrand Fine Chocolates. The kitchen tour allowed for tastings of the artisan vanilla and chocolate marshmallow house specialties. AND, the creme de la creme... our final stop was the POPULAR  and distinctive quilted patterned bag mega-business VB. I LOVE my new luggage tag.
This trip sold out very quickly... Watch for the Spring trip details and sign up so you don't MISS out next time!  dh

SPENDING AN AFTERNOON ON THE RIVER

Wednesday, August 8, 2012
CINCINNATI, OHIO

BELLE OF CINCINNATI
The High Street Travelers enjoyed a warm summer afternoon on a lunch cruise down the Ohio River complete with banjo tunes. BB Riverboats provided an excellent way to take in the scenery and a leisurely float.

Shown here, Shirley and Patti - the ladies in pink, find a sunny spot mid-deck to enjoy the cruise after lunch. A talented banjo player entertained and provided helpful landmark history for us during the 2 hour cruise. Our buffet lunch was plentiful and tasty.

The morning tour of the traveling Pompeii exhibit at the Cincinnati Science Center & Museum was fascinating and informative. We only wish the 1 1/4 hour we had there could have been 3 hours, but good to see, none the less.

Miss Daisey Explores Caribbean Princess At Sea

7/18   Overcast, Then Rain, then Sea Swells...
Last night, our ship sailed past the oil-fields of the North Sea. Our south-bound route rounded Britian's most easternly coatline - Norfolk. Then we turned south-east towards France.
Even though I am just a flower that my leader Deb carries around, I have been very busy. There is the Lotus spas & fitness center complete with a scale to assess the kilos gained from too many trips to the buffet. I have checked out the magnificent art collection and items available for auction. The ship casino is paying out at the slot machines a bit. The shops and boutiques are open all day selling T-shirts, fine jewelry and sundries.

A fine gentleman named Jun at the Vines wine bar has allowed me to sample the wonderful cabernet. I'm relieved NOT to have visited the medical center on board, althougha few in the group have had to.
My leader's balcony stateroom is a relaxing spot for food delivered by room service or for reading a book. I really do LOVE cruising; it helps my blooms:)

Great Destinations Staff Aides Stranded Travelers

SHOWN: Jim & Pat McKissick get breakfast early Sat morning in New York.
Well, let's just say Friday became a rough start beginning at Heathrow Intern'l Airport. A passenger left a personal bag on the motor coach that brought us to the airport. We arrived with what seemed like 2,000 of the 3,000 cruise passengers all checking in at the same time. Two in our group were fisked going through security. Our plane was in the air for approximately 45 minutes and turned around with a passenger medical emergency (thankfully not one of us). * But I'd want the Captain to do the same if it was me! *
We endured 12 hours on the Delta plane when we landed safely at JFK airport at 8 pm. Unfortunately our connecting flight to IND left at 6:40 pm, so we are re-booked tomorrow and we must find hotel rooms.
ENTER our hero, Joe Mook. When Joe realized that our plane trip would be delayed, he immediately went to work researching options. The airline's obligation is ONLY to fly you to the final destination. Thank goodness, we always buy travel insurance for such occasions! Other weather delays in the area made JFK airport pure craziness and I don't know how Joe secured those 12 hotel rooms, but at the midnight hour (literally) we had a confirmed reservation AND many in line at the Double Tree with a Delta voucher didn't.
This is what a PROFESSIONAL TRAVEL AGENCY does for you. Folks if you ever, doubt paying a little extra for services.. STOP!
Delta didn't help us and shuttle drivers didn't care that we had traveled 20 hours, but Joe Mook went back to the office late Friday night and took care of the High Street Travelers!
THANK YOU   THANK YOU  THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US:)
